GLICO General Insurance Company (GLICO GENERAL), a leading non-life insurance company, has sponsored the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) with a GHC 100,000 Public Liability insurance package for this year’s Kwaku paragliding activities. This sponsorship is in line with GLICO GENERAL’s promise to cushion Ghanaians for life as they provide insurance packages that provide security and peace of mind.
Addressing the media at the press announcement, the Group Head, Corporate Affairs and Marketing – GLICO GROUP, Nana Efua Rockson, noted that the Kwahu Easter festival has become a national event in Ghana and the introduction of the paragliding events has added colour to the Easter celebrations, attracting both local and international tourists.
She alluded to the fact that the recent disaster at the Kintampo waterfalls, which left about 17, people dead, has called for a heightened sense of risk mitigation structures at Ghana’s tourist centres. It is for this reason that GLICO GENERAL, in line with nationalism and their social responsibility values, found it worthy to take up the responsibility and the risk of sponsoring the insurance of this year’s Kwahu paragliding event. In doing so, GLICO GENERAL aims to offer all tourists the needed peace of mind to participate gleefully in the paragliding event.
Nana Efua further explained that the Public Liability insurance shall indemnify anyone at the paragliding event against accidental bodily injuries, death and damage to property arising from activities of the paragliding event at Kwahu.
GLICO GENERAL, again in the spirit of giving, announced an 80% Easter special discounted cover for Personal Accident package for churches, clubs and individuals travelling to Kwaku or other tourist sites for socialisation, conventions or expedition during the Easter season.
Accepting the good gesture, the Chief Executive Officer of GTA, Mr. Kwasi Agyeman thanked GLICO GENERAL for the insurance package and assured Ghanaians that the insurance will cover everyone who enters the gate of the paragliding event grounds.
He further highlighted the preparations made for this year’s event by stating that, the GTA has collaborated with the Ghana Police, the Ghana Army and the Meteorological department to ensure safety of all participants. He added also that, six seasoned pilots have been flown from around the world to ensure safety and pleasurable experience of all participating in the paragliding flight.
Mr. Agyeman reiterated that the GTA have taken necessary steps to ensure that the unfortunate incidence at Kintampo will not be repeated again at any tourism site and that insurance provisions is only one of such steps.
